Our Cause

The Surfing Madonna Beach Run is about more than just fun, fitness and community, it’s an opportunity for you to help keep our oceans clean, our coastline protected, and to provide opportunities for disabled kids and adults to experience the healing power of the ocean. 100% of the proceeds from this run go directly to the Surfing Madonna Oceans Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting our ocean from the harmful effects of pollution, and to cultivating new ocean advocates. Run (or walk) knowing that your participation is making a positive impact on the world!

Surf Camp for Special Needs Children

Every year, Surfing Madonna Oceans Project hosts an incredible complimentary Surf Camp for Special Needs Kids at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas from May to September. Over 300 children receive 2 hours of one-on-one surf instruction! To date, we’ve surfed with over 1,000 special needs kiddos from Encinitas, San Diego and beyond.

Proceeds from the Surfing Madonna Beach Run fund this program! So, thank you to all of the participants for supporting this program!

Floating Beach Wheelchairs

Ocean Program for Disabled Veterans & Adults

Surfing Madonna Oceans Project and volunteers take disabled veterans and special needs adults on an epic ocean adventure! Swimming, snorkeling and surfing at Moonlight Beach! Surfing Madonna donated floating beach wheelchairs (as shown in photo) and mobility mats (plastic walkways) down to the waters edge. Volunteers and Surfing Madonna team members tow the wheelchairs passed the break for a beautiful, calm snorkeling and swimming experience 200 yards off shore. Then, once back on shore for a little lunch break, everyone takes turns riding waves with Surfing Madonna President, Bob Nichols. This program is year round!
